So this Colette Peony dress should be a piece of cake to make because it’s made of a bodice with two darts and a simple a-line skirt with gathers in front. However, i had to make 3 muslins to fit the bodice because the bust darts were too close together compared to my body and i’m a size 8 (uk) at the bust, size 12 at the waist and size 14 at the hip…… -o-
I used a navy colour cotton poplin with some crosswise stretch from John Lewis with white spots and because of the weather in the UK, I decided to underline the fashion fabric with another plain navy colour cotton so it’s warmer to wear. I also lined the inside of the dress with polyester taffeta lining in grey. The lining is stitched to the dress by hand with technique learned from Susan Khalje’s couture dress online class.
One thing I didn’t realise until wearing the lined dress was that the boat neck keeps coming off my shoulder… So I added a thread chain on both side of the shoulders as well…
This is also my first garment with jump hem (i think this is what it’s called anyway).
Lastly, I used the left over underlining fabric to make the belt. I’m not that confident with buttonholes so I used a button loop instead.
